Liam Payne confirms a One Direction reunion is happening

It’s pretty on-brand for One Direction fans to dissect any and all clues about the former boy band reuniting (because everyone deserves nice things). But with so many citizens self-isolating right now, some people are definitely finding they have extra time on their hands to go down such fandom rabbit holes. Luckily for them they were rewarded recently when Liam Payne revealed in an Instagram Live chat that the band is, as they say, getting back together. For a special one-time reunion, that is.Payne took to the social media platform with his “Midnight” collaborator, Swedish DJ Alesso, on April 19 to talk about new music. There fans almost immediately jumped in to demand answers to all of their sleuthing, sparked by the fact that last week the rest of the guys started following Zayn Malik on Twitter again (he left the band in 2015). Adding fuel to that particular fire is the fact that Malik is no longer listed as an ex-member of the group on Google, so you can’t blame fans for wanting to know what’s up, especially as the guys approach their 10-year anniversary.

“Oh my God dude, there’s so many One Direction questions,” Alesso said during the chat. “But I feel like I don’t want to put you on the spot because I know you can’t say too much.” That didn’t mean Payne couldn’t say something though.“I did speak to Niall again on Facetime today and he was outside on his balcony sunbathing and whatever,” Payne revealed. “He's in London as well. Most of us are in London. We've been trying to arrange the first group Facetime at the moment. You can come and fill in for Zayn. Join the band… I can't say too much. Louis told me off for revealing a bit about our plans the other day. So I had a group telling-off on the group chat.”Does that mean Malik won’t be a part of whatever the band has planned? In the meantime it seems like Payne is referring to an exclusive interview he had with The Sun UK recently, in which he revealed the guys have been connecting again and looking at “old content” and different things that they haven’t seen in a long time or even at all.“There's a number of different things that we are all working on to try and make happen and people are forwarding emails around,” he told the publication. “But more than anything it's just been a real good time for us to connect together again.”If ever there was a time 1D fans needed a little hope, now would be it. The guys officially went on an indefinite hiatus in January 2016 after the release of their final album, Made in the A.M. Since then the guys have all been going in their own directions with their music, but recently the official band website got back up and running, sparking even more rumours.As fans everywhere await more news, Stiles has also been open about a potential virtual reunion to mark the 10-year July anniversary of when the guys were first put together by Simon Cowell on The X Factor. “I don't know if that's the reunion we had in mind,” he said earlier this month. “I don't know if that would be the way to do it.
