History is being made! After lots of talk over the past few years about the very heterosexual love stories featured in Lifetime’s holiday movies, the network announced on September 15 that change is a-coming this festive season. Canada’s own Scott Pilgrim vs the World star Ben Lewis will star alongside Parks and Recreation alum Blake Lee in the first Lifetime holiday movie to feature an LGBTQ love story. And the best part is Lewis and Lee are already married in real life. They say art imitates life, but in this case, art imitates Lifetime.According to TV Line, the special, entitled The Christmas Setup, will also star The Nanny’s Fran Drescher, and was co-written by members of the LGBTQ community. A home-for-the-holiday’s type of story will unfold as both Ben and Blake’s characters Hugo and Patrick meet and fall in love after some cunning matchmaking skills by Kate, played by Drescher.Lewis, who splits his time between Toronto and Los Angeles, also made the announcement today on his official Instagram account.
“There’s good-weird and bad-weird. 2020 has been bad-weird,” Lewis wrote in his caption, encouraging people to vote in this year’s American election, “but starring alongside my husband @blakeleeblake (not to mention my old friends @ellewongster, @chadjc and the ICON @officialfrandrescher) in Lifetime’s first gay Christmas movie (directed by @patkmills) definitely qualifies as good-weird. In fact, it’s the most surreal, wonderful early-Xmas gift I could ask for.”Recently on Twitter, Lewis also told the story of how he and Lee met and fell in love during the premiere of Scott Pilgrim vs the World. In two-tweet thread, Lewis explained how director Edgar Wright’s choice to cast him in Scott Pilgrim profoundly changed his career and also his personal life. “At the Hollywood premiere, in the men’s room of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, I met a friend of Aubrey Plaza’s who would become my husband. Julie Powers was in our wedding party, and Ramona Flowers sang our first dance,” he tweeted, posting a photo of that fateful night.[video_embed id='2035003']Before you go: The 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' mansion is on Airbnb[/video_embed]
