When Oprah likes something, she makes sure that everyone, their cousin and their neighbour knows it. It's why she gives away all her "favourite things" around the holidays every year and runs a book club (more on that later)—basically, lady likes to stan. So when she was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on CTV) Monday with her current fave Lil Nas X, she made it a priority to let him know just how she felt, regardless of how ready he was for the interaction.During her interview, Oprah had nothing but the highest praise for Lil Nas, gushing "I just love that song!" in reference to "Old Town Road" and explaining (sort of) how it's in her head every time she gets up to pee. We don't really know what that means, but she said it like it was a good thing so we'll assume that's a coveted spot on the Oprah Charts.Naturally, Oprah wanted to meet the artist behind her fave tune, and she shared with everyone exactly how bizarre their first encounter was. Basically, she was so excited to meet Lil Nas, that she accidentally barged in on him when he was changing."We just met in the hallway," she said at first. "Actually, he wasn't dressed and I went in the room and he was like, 'Let me get my clothes on!'... [He was] not quite naked, but somewhat."
Oops. Ellen has a bit of a reputation for surprising people, but this case seems less like a planned sneak attack and more like Oprah not being able to contain her inner fangirl (the planned attack came later). Honestly, if Oprah is that pumped to see you, you've got to be doing something right. It looks like Lil Nas wasn't too scarred by the incident since he tweeted a photo of himself (after he was clothed) meeting the legend. He may look like a reluctant toddler having his cheeks pinched by a gregarious auntie, but judging by what Ellen told the audience earlier, Lil Nas was just as excited to meet Oprah as she was to meet him. Lady O wasn't just there to tell funny anecdotes and give adorable cheek pinches though; the real purpose of her visit was to drop some major news about her programming with the new Apple+ streaming service. She shared that while her agreement lets her do whatever she wants (and you can bet, she'll be dabbling in a lot of things), her first project is bringing her book club to the platform."It's the reason I wanted to partner with Apple," she said. "You can build this entire community around the world and you can have everybody in the world reading the same book."She explained that she'll be streaming interviews with authors in Apple stores around the world, starting with award-winning journalist and author Ta-Nehisi Coates, who recently released his first fiction novel, The Water Dancer. Looks like we have the beginning of our fall reading list.In true Oprah form, it wasn't a talk show without some giveaways and the icon ended her segment by gifting everyone in the audience an iPad (to join her book club, of course) and a $100 gift card.
