Lil Wayne has just been hit with a federal weapons charge. Earlier today, the rapper was charged with one count of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon. While the charge is new, the incident which lead to the charge is not. Last December, Miami police followed up on an anonymous tip that prompted a search of Lil Wayne’s private jet. The 38-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was on his way back from California and, in their search, police and federal agents found what was described as a “gold-plated .45-caliber Glock handgun with a pearl grip.” In defence of this, Lil Wayne said the gun was a Father’s Day Gift. However, this was not his first run-in with the law. Back in 2007, a gun was found on Lil Wayne’s tour bus while he passed through Manhattan. Facing this charge, the popular rapper plead guilty and served 8 months in Rikers Island Jail, which has famously housed a variety of high-profile inmates.Following this recent charge, Lil Wayne faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. In their search of the ‘Lollipop’ star’s jet, police also reportedly found ecstasy, marijuana, heroin, pain killers, and prescription-strength cough syrup, and with $25,938 in cash. Despite this, the charge against the New-Orleans native doesn’t mention any drug-related offenses. In response to the allegations, Lil Wayne’s lawyer noted that there is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. “There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person. The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.”Legal troubles aside, Lil Wayne has hardly been out of the spotlight these days. The rapper recently released music videos for his tracks, ‘Big Worm’, ‘Glory’, and ‘Mama Mia’. He was also featured in Jack Harlow’s widely popular song, ‘WHATS POPPIN’, and appeared alongside Donald Trump in Florida ahead of the recent election. Unsurprisingly, fans had plenty to say about his apparent endorsement of Trump.
