You might have a special skill, but had you discovered and perfected that skill by the time you were three years old? Were you making thousands of dollars off of it at that age? No, we didn’t think so. Well, get ready to feel like you’ve never actually accomplished anything. Advait Kolarkar is three years old and has sold abstract paintings for more than $500.
Advait started painting before he could walk or talk and has been described as a true prodigy. His parents say that while many children at his age will paint their own abstract “art pieces,” Advait’s had a clear formula and structure to them. Anyone who’s seen the boy’s painting process knows that he’s doing something completely unique.
“I’ve never seen someone that age dabble with paints in the way that he does,” said Bernard Cormier, Saint John, N.B.’s cultural affairs officer, “It wasn’t messy. It was formulated in his head somehow.”
The Kolarkar family recently moved to Saint John from India where Advait had put on a few art exhibitions (yes, before the age of three). He is currently putting together an exhibit for the Saint John Art Center that will open in January. He landed the gig when his mother, Shruti, asked Cormier if the local library could display some of Advait’s paintings. Cormier was so impressed, that he had to put the pieces in a bigger venue: the city’s art gallery.
Yeah, we’d say that’s pretty gallery-worthy. We can only imagine what kind of masterpieces this kid is going to be creating as he gets older.
So there’s your daily dose of “Wow, that’s incredible. Wish I could do that.” Have a nice day!
