It can’t be easy being the Pope (we assume). You’ve got the weight of millions of Catholics and their religious beliefs resting on your shoulders. You’ve got the eyes of the world on you awaiting your moves and reactions to various events, both recent and things that happened literally thousands of years ago. Plus, you have to work every Sunday and everyone knows that Sundays are the best time to sleep in and catch up on HBO. There are no Sunday-Fundays when you’re the Pope.
Pope Francis is currently fulfilling his many Pope-related duties in Rome and was greeting his followers this week. Usually this includes people asking for blessings and prayers, but this week’s meet and greet included one little girl who got hilariously handsy.
Moutain Butorac, a man who sounds like he should be a character on Game of Thrones, brought his 3-year-old goddaughter Estella to Rome to meet Pope Francis. We’re not sure that’s every 3-year-old’s idea of a fun day, but let’s hope they were heading to see the Trolls movie next.
Butorac told CNN that Estella was quite nervous to meet the head of the Roman Catholic Church, as one is, but managed to calm her nerves long enough to greet Pope Francis. And steal his hat.

In this hilariously cute clip that has now gone viral, Estella receives a kiss from Pope Francis before snatching his hat. The religious leader has a good laugh at the little girl’s efforts to get the ultimate souvenir from her trip to Rome before retrieving his beanie (or ‘zucchetto’, if you want to get technical).
Of course, this would be even more impressive if she managed to steal his large hat, but that’s more of a job for a 6-year-old.
This isn’t the first time the Pope has lost his hat at work.
Or the first time he’s found some humour in his younger members of the church.
Stay humble and happy, Pope F!
