Every once in a while, a company takes a stand. It could be for the good of humans, animals or our forests, lakes air or climate, but it’s a stand. And that certainly deserves appreciation. Loblaw (the company that owns Loblaws – confusing, we know) has taken a stand on additives in beauty products that are harmful to people and the environment.
And so, by 2018, the company will be eliminating microbeads (which don’t get processed and live at the bottom of the ocean as pollutants), phthalates (which are most notably linked to cancer) and triclosan (a toxin to aquatic organisms found in deodorant and antiperspirant) from its Life brand and President’s Choice products. Now, Loblaw sells a lot of other brands in its Loblaws stores, so it’s a small step. But a small step is still a great one.
