When you think of high fashion, a simple, black t-shirt with your favourite television show printed on the front is probably not the first thing that pops into mind. But for Louis Vuitton’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, anything goes. During LV’s spring/summer 2018 showing at Paris Fashion Week, a model walked the runway wearing a Stranger Things t-shirt over a balloon sleeved, floaty top and pale pink trousers.
The French designer’s love for the hit series isn’t a secret. He’s met some of the Stranger Things cast last September, hinting at a possible collaboration on his Instagram.
After the show, Ghesquière told Vogue, “I met the kids last season, and we had a very good time. And so we spoke and we thought it was very funny, maybe, to do a little citation of the series that is coming out soon in the show. It’s always great to have a little accident like that in the styling, like if the girl has kept her T-shirt from backstage in a way, and so Stranger Things … I think it was one of the most wanted clothes backstage by the girls.”
But it wasn’t all just pop culture references on the catwalk. In front of a star-studded front row that included A-listers like Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Alicia Vikander, Ruth Negga, Jaden Smith and Cate Blanchett, models strutted their stuff down the runway in intricately embellished pants, gorgeous embroidered jackets and dainty silk shorts.
The shirt’s probably more in our budget, though.
