The Riverdale star and former Beverly Hills, 90210 heartthrob suffered a stroke in his home Wednesday morning and, after having been sedated last week, never recovered. Perry passed away Monday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California, as reported by TMZ.
"He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends," Perry's rep Albert Robinson said in a statement to USA Today. "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time."
He had been shooting episodes of the popular show in L.A. recently and was at his home in Sherman Oaks when paramedics were called around 9:30am Wednesday.
That same day, a number of the core former 90210 cast members announced that they were joining a new version of the show that would see the actors playing heightened versions of themselves, reuniting to try and launch a reboot. Perry and Shannen Doherty had not signed on for the project but she shared an Instagram post sending her former co-star hopeful thoughts when news of his medical crisis broke.
His Riverdale family, including Lili Reinhart and KJ Apa, who plays his son Archie, also shared their best wishes for a full recovery.
And now that news of his passing has been confirmed, tributes are pouring in on social media.

The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted “Buffy” to be. I asked if he’d ever seen “Near Dark” and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we’d get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn’t be gone.— Joss Whedon (@joss) March 4, 2019
