Sometimes the internet delivers truly incredible things. Thanks to the power of a very chic meme, Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o are set to star in an upcoming film directed by Ava DuVernay. We are so in.

With the Cannes Film Festival fully underway in France, the currently untitled project was presented to studios and was snatched up by Netflix after a reportedly intense bidding war. All three women are signed on for the project, with Issa Rae, the creator, writer and lead actor of HBO’s Insecure reportedly writing the script. Yaaassss kweens.

What’s just as amazing as the promise of seeing this dream team together is how the project started. During a 2014 fashion show for Miu Miu, Grammy winner and designer Rihanna was seated next to Oscar winner, and the always fashionable Lupita Nyong’o. The two women were snapped together multiple times, with one image in particular tickling the creativity of the internet. The pic of the superstars began making the rounds as a meme, with Twitter users penning a heist script that described Rihanna as a woman who cons men, with Nyong’o acting as her hacker best friend and co-conspirator.

Twitter users not only supplied the two leads with their storylines, but also suggested DuVernay to direct and Rae to write the full script. In the world of movies, sometimes all you have to do is ask nicely.

Rihanna, Nyong’o, and DuVernay all confirmed their involvement in April, releasing unofficial statements – where else – on Twitter.

The film will reportedly begin shooting in 2018, with DuVernay currently finishing post-production on A Wrinkle In Time, which stars Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Reese Witherspoon and Oprah Winfrey. We would definitely be down for seeing any of these women join the Rihanna/Lupita film as well.

As for Rae, she has yet to officially confirm her involvement, with the multi-talented artist currently finishing up Season 2 of Insecure, which debuts July 23 on HBO. But if this cat gif is any indication, Rae is in. She’s also very fast at typing.

It’s unclear whether Rae or whoever writes the film will stick to the heist idea. Rihanna is set to star in the upcoming all-female Ocean’s 8, which may make doing a second heist film in two years seem like one too many. But frankly, we’ll see anything by this group of women.

The upcoming project may be the first time a major film is lead by, directed by and written by women of colour. It’s about time.
