Maluma and The Weeknd send fans into a frenzy with 'Hawái Remix'

The song is from Maluma's fifth studio album Papi Juancho, which he released in August. The Weeknd and Maluma teased the surprise collab on Instagram Wednesday night. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, shared a photo from the music video without a caption which had many fans speculating that a collab was on the way. He shared another photo from the music video on Thursday with the words "Hawái Remix" written across the bottom, confirming that our speculations were true.
The Weeknd opens the song with his dreamy vocals singing, "So now he’s your heaven / You’re lying to yourself and him to make me jealous / You put on such an act when you’re sleeping together /All this cause I said I don’t want marriage, I don’t want marriage / I rather go half on a baby / Cause at least I know that it’s not temporary." He switches back and forth from English to Spanish throughout the track. This is the first time The Weeknd has recorded a Spanish track and he should definitely do it more often because ... wow!
During an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Maluma said that The Weeknd "killed it, because he's a real artist." Maluma said it was like the "Blinding Lights" singer had been singing reggaeton for his entire life. "And I knew that his voice in the song could work amazing. And that's what happened," the 26-year-old singer added.He also said when he first listened to The Weeknd's opening of the song he said "bro, this sounds like The Weeknd's song" and he couldn't believe how good their vocals mixed together. Maluma called it "a huge moment for the Latin culture." Back in April Maluma had just told Lowe that one of his dream collabs would be with The Weeknd, Bruno Mars or Rihanna because he loves "mixing the cultures, I will think that will be big." Well Maluma, dreams do come true.
Fans of Maluma and The Weeknd took to Twitter to celebrate the new music video and collab that we never knew we needed so badly.
"Hawái's" original music video follows the singer as he goes through all the emotions following the end of his relationship. "The relationship is becoming toxic. You just don't get it. I can't continue this," the girl says at the beginning of the video. "Always looking for excuses," Maluma screams back at her before diving into his lyrics.
Maluma performed "Hawái" at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards where The Weeknd also performed his hit song "Blinding Lights."
Maluma never disappoints when it comes to his iconic music videos and elaborate storylines. The video, which celebrates Medellín, Colombia, also stars some of reggaeton’s current superstars Bad Bunny, Bryant Myers, De la Ghetto, Arcángel and you get a look at Juan Luis' rise to stardom as Maluma (a fake storyline but there have to be some type of similarities).
The Weeknd is about to take over the charts from his recent collab with Ariana Grande on her new album Positions to the "Hawái Remix" and we love to see a Canadian victory.
