Anyone who’s ever lost something in the ocean before knows the odds of getting it back are almost zilch.
The ocean, after all, is a pretty big, perpetually moving place. That’s why when Calgary resident Aaron Thibeault lost his wedding ring in the waters off of Maui, Hawaii, he figured he’d never see it again. Although, he did make some attempts to find it before returning home, just to be safe.
Thibeault contacted a local metal detecting business which specializes in searching for items that have been lost in the water. Staff scoured the coast for days without turning up a match and, eventually, Thibeault decided to just tattoo a ring on his finger as a replacement.
About two weeks ago, however–nine months after the trip–a lifeguard discovered the ring and called it in to the same metal detecting business Thibeault had hired. Since the jewelry had both his and his wife’s name on it, it was easy to reunite the ring with its owner.
All this time later, it’s back on Thibeault’s finger. You can check out the story for yourself in the video above.
