Parts of the U.K. have been experiencing unseasonal sweltering temperatures, which is usually something to be enjoyed, especially considering the kind of dreary weather the area typically gets. But not so much for Joey Barge. Just because there’s a heatwave going on doesn’t mean he can sit out and enjoy it.  He, along with so many others, has to go to work — often in buildings that aren’t equipped to handle the high temps.

Barge wondered on Twitter why women were allowed to wear dresses and skirts to work, while the men couldn’t show off their legs in shorts. But he gave it a go anyway.

He soon got his answer, and was sent home to change into more appropriate work attire.

But rather than throw on a pair of suffocating pants, the young man grabbed something he knew was permitted at the call centre he worked at: a black and pink dress.

Honestly, look how flushed he is. The heat is one thing, but driving back and forth and changing probably didn’t help. So if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.

FYI, this is how hot the temps were in his area. Glorious, if on a beach with a drink in hand. Not so much if you’re stuck in a presumably stuffy office.

Barge totally thought he was going to be booted from work once again, but his company issued a memo announcing a change to the dress code.

Barge’s higher-ups asked him to go home and change since he could now wear the shorts he originally wore, but he remained defiant and opted to stay in the dress.

“They said it was a bit too colourful and asked if I wanted to go home and change because they were letting us wear shorts because of my ‘protest,'” he told the Daily Mail, “but I said I was happy to stay.”

Hey, why not? You work what you were given, and Barge worked this dress just fine.
