Have you ever been stuck at an airport overnight? It’s the worst, right? (Especially when there’s no one else around to entertain you or, heck, even offer you a shoulder to cry on.) Richard Dunn was going through this excruciating experience when he decided to do something about it. Why mope around in an eerily empty airport, when it could be the perfect backdrop for a super cool music video?
Dunn, who was stuck at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, decided to remake Celine Dion’s cover of “All By Myself.” Quite fitting since Dion performs at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and the song is clearly about being alone. (Poor guy.)
The ever imaginative Dunn shot the video all by himself. No, seriously. Here’s how he got some of those brilliant shots that made you say, “How’d he do that?!”
“I had a person behind a ticket counter give me a roll of luggage tape before she left. I then used a wheelchair that had a tall pole on the back of it and taped my iPhone to that. Then I would put it on the moving walkway for a dolly shot,” he said on his Vimeo page. “I also used the extended handle on my computer bag and taped the iPhone to my handle. I would tuck different stuff under the bag to get the right angle. For the escalator shot I had to sprint up the steps after I got my shot so the computer bag didn’t hit the top and fall back down. Quite fun!”
OK, that takes a lot of time and commitment. If any of us were in his position, we’d probably already be halfway across the street trying to find the nearest casino to gamble our money (and time) away. So, we’d like to offer Mr. Dunn a round of applause for his brilliantly creative video. Bravo!
