Legendary songstress Mariah Carey has acquired quite a name for herself in her decades in the music biz, and it’s not only for her five-octave vocal range or string of globally successful albums. By now you’ve heard all the wild and wacky rumours of outlandish behaviour – the insistence on gold taps and new toilets being fitted wherever she stays, that she’s met with 20 white kittens and 100 white doves, and that she bathes only in the finest French mineral water. But here’s one stranger-than-fiction truth we can now confirm – the Grammy-award winning singer bathes in cold milk as a beauty treatment.

In a candid sit-down interview with Simon Hattenstone and the UK’s Guardian (probably the last place we’d expect to hear a Mariah Carey beauty scoop) the songstress dismissed many a popular diva myth, from the insistence of kittens (false), to the gold taps (false), to the French mineral water (also false), but did make the stunning revelation of her unusual skin treatment. “No, I bathe in milk,” when pressed on the mineral water rumour. Well, duh, how did we not guess? She ventured so far as to confirm it was cold, and not hot, milk, but hushed up there – hey, girl’s gotta guard her beauty secrets fiercely to stay looking this flawless, after all.

When Hattenstone asked Carey to confirm the decadent baths, the singer replied: “Yes, sometimes I use milk as a beauty treatment. I don’t want to give away all my secrets.” When asked more about the mineral water, she smiled and said, “Well, I guess if there’s no clean water and I had to use mineral water, maybe I would.”

And apparently, this basic home remedy is known for its major health benefits. It’s said even Cleopatra herself – maybe the original diva? – bathed in the liquid to preserve her youthful appearance. And according to experts asked over at HelloGiggles, dairy products like milk and yogurt “naturally contain beneficial fats and moisturising properties” that one might look for in a skin product. Well, it’s better than bathing in the blood of a hundred virgins.

So, it seems this simple treatment is all you need to get that Fantasy glow. This surely won’t stop the rumour mill churning out ever more strange and ridiculous rumours of Mariah’s requests, but when it comes to her beauty tips, we’ll be all ears.
