It's that time of year, when Mariah Carey's record-breaking Christmas classic is playing non-stop on playlists and radio stations everywhere, whether it's sung by Mimi herself or covered by one of the dozens of artists who've tried to do it justice. And because Mariah and the holidays are basically inseparable at this point,  when she chatted with GQ about her essentials for this magical season it urns out she likes to spend her time in a surprising spot—the kitchen."I like to cook every year," Carey shared in the video interview. "I cook on the 23rd, 24th and 25th — all different menus." But there's one dish she always prepares, though she doesn't get too specific about it. "One of them is one of my father's recipes. Before he passed away, he left me this recipe that I like to make every year on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas, we do a traditional dinner." The "We Belong Together" singer confessed that it wasn't always easy. "It took me a while to learn how to do the turkey. You have to know what you're doing to make a turkey. You can't poison people." Good call, Mimi.
"I'm not gonna lie, I typically have a sous chef there but I do have a very specific menu that I won't go into right now," she admitted, before announcing the big news."Because one day I'm going to put out a Christmas cookbook." Talk about burying the lead! And just what kind of diva-licious dishes can we expect?"I used to bake a lot and one of my favourite things to bake was German chocolate cake," she said of the decadent dessert. "I want to do that with my daughter because she loves baking and cooking." And perhaps it's because she was talking about Monroe that Mimi started feeling emotions. "You gotta cook with love. If you don't cook with love, it's not gonna taste good." And when asked what her secret ingredient it is, her answer was perfectly Mariah: "Love, darling. Love." And a sous chef.

So what if she only cooks once a year?

Mariah did admit that she does takes out the pots and pans at Christmastime but Monroe and her twin brother, Moroccan, like it when she does so she's "been cooking a little bit more" for them. "Even though it takes up a lot of time, it's relaxing for me because I'm not thinking about business. I'm not thinking about anything else, I'm just down there in the kitchen cooking."And for all of those who don't think she can cook, Carey is happy to clear things up. "People don’t believe that I cook, by the way. They think that I'm lying, like, lots of people are like, 'She don't cook.' But the truth is that I do, and I actually love cooking. They'd be surprised if they came over for dinner!" Admittedly, we would. But that's part of the fun of holidays: the surprises."People don’t believe that I cook, by the way," Carey said, who seemed a bit bothered by the assumption. "They think that I'm lying, like, lots of people are like, 'She don't cook.' But the truth is that I do, and I actually love cooking."

Speaking of, Mariah also revealed that aside from her love of snow, she's also got an in with Santa Claus himself, in case you need to get a message to him."I always see Santa Claus, we talk things over," she said. "You might think I'm making this up but this is true. I'm kind of like the hotline for Santa Claus so if anybody wants to talk to him, just DM me and we'll make it work." Excuse us while we slide into Mimi's DMs with a few holiday wishes.[video_embed id='1822255']RELATED: Mariah Carey re-releasing famous Christmas album in some unique ways[/video_embed]
