We all know that Canadian basketball fans only have one team to cheer for in the NBA playoffs. The Toronto Raptors, obviously. As the Raptors advanced to the Eastern Conference finals–just a few games away from the actual NBA finals!!–fans were perplexed and annoyed when CBS Sports decided to exclude Canada’s only NBA team from a very important and scientific poll. (We hope you can note the sarcasm).

The national pool asked “who will win the NBA title?”, but listed the Raptors as “Other,” instead of, you know, just adding them to the list. Naturally, fans were pissed and got #WeTheOther trending, a play on the team’s unofficial tag #WeTheNorth, on Twitter.

The memes that came out of the whole ordeal were incredible to say the least.

And then someone decided to take it to another level

Yeah, that’s the official letterhead of the Mayor of Toronto and no it’s not forged. Toronto Mayor John Tory threw his hat into the petty ring by writing a letter directed at CBS Sports, detailing why the Raptors mean everything to his city and the country. Clearly Tory’s been sipping the lemonade and we’re totally OK with that. Although, declaring that the Raptors will win the championship this year was a bit preemptive–to say the least–we glad the mayor stuck up for Canada’s team.
