Wanna really tear a hunk out of your pop’s heart this Father’s Day? Looking to get the edge on your siblings when it comes to getting the ultimate gift for Dad? Or maybe you’re chomping at the bit to make up for those ties you seem to keep getting him these past few years.
Whatever your reason is for wanting to show one of the most important men in your life how much you care, this year there’s a solution for all the meat-eating dads that they’re guaranteed to love: good old-fashioned meat.
That’s right, all you need to do is get him meat. Glorious, manly, Ron Swanson-approved meat. And thanks to a new club in town, it’s possible to get him lots of meat, each and every month — delivered right to his door.
Carnivore Club is the answer. Instead of wine (or socks, ties, beer or soaps), each month the club delivers handcrafted charcuterie from around the world right to his growling stomach, and all for a pretty reasonable price.
For $55 a month (the price goes down depending on how many months you sign up for), the Carnivore Club will deliver four to six different samples of artisan charcuterie in a manly faux-wood box. They’ll also include a “Meat Eaters Handbook,” which talks about which region the meat is from and how it was produced.
According to founder Tim Ray, charcuterie is much like wine in that there are dramatic differences in each offering depending on the makers and where it’s produced. Techniques, ingredients and even the way the animals are raised all contribute to the overall flavour and meat-eating experience. These boxes are not only a great way to sample meat from around the world, but to also experience certain cuts you may never even think to buy at the store.
In May, the regular box included chorizo, Serrano ham, summer sausage and Iberico Jamon selected from La Alberca, Spain, where Fermin Martin and his wife Victoriana Gomez started curing meats back in 1956. In June, the box includes selections like Maple Jerky, Bison Meat Sticks and American Biltong.
If you want to sign Dad up to receive a box of his very own before Father’s Day (or if you’re just feeling hungry and want one for yourself), be sure to subscribe to one of the three available options before June 11. After that you can certainly still nab a box, but it won’t be delivered until July.
