Megan Thee Stallion has Beyoncé on speed dial because sometimes fabulous dreams come true

Megan Thee Stallion has been having a banner year. TikTok had fans dancing to her tune “Savage,” sending it skyrocketing into the charts. Even the Queen herself, Beyoncé, had to get “classy, bougie, ratchet” by appearing on the remix. Her duet with Cardi B in “WAP” made quite the *ahem* splash on the charts and in the news, she dropped her debut album Good News, and she was lavished with four Grammy noms, all before the year was out. Even GQ called her the “rapper of the year.” Seriously, the phrase "meteoric rise" barely even cuts it.

Speaking on the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, she revealed just how much this journey from struggling artist in Texas to superstar has meant to her, especially since, as Stephen pointed out, she now has Beyoncé on speed-dial. #LifeGoals

“I remember the first time I ever saw Destiny's Child in concert,” she marvelled via video-chat. “It was at the rodeo, and it was just amazing. And I remember being a little kid like, 'Wow! I want to do this one day!’ And just being from Houston, you have to know what Beyoncé just means to us. She's like the standard. So, being able to just speak to Beyoncé now, I'm like, 'Girl! Pat on the back.'"

Even though she gets to phone Queen Bey whenever she wants, apparently she prefers the musings and life guidance from Jay-Z instead. “Jay-Z gives the fun advice,” she laughed. “Like say if I’m havin’ a bad day, he’ll be like, ‘Girl, you need to be somewhere drivin’ a boat. Turn up. Have a good time.’ He gives me the more hot-girl advice. Beyoncé is like, ‘Look queen, just rise above.’ She says it the nicer way and Jay-Z gives it to me the more turnt up way.” Spot on Bey impression btw, Meg.

Speaking of turnt up, her new song “Body,” which made a huge splash at the American Music Awards this year, has inspired the #BodyOdyChallenge on TikTok. According to Megan, the song was written with quarantine in mind, as she wanted people to feel good about their bodies no matter what staying home was doing to it.

Admitting that all her baking caused her to gain some weight, she says her body was still banging. “I was looking and in the mirror and I was like, ‘You look good though. So we should dance about it.’ […] The hook literally came from me looking in the mirror admiring my fluff,” she laughed. “It’s definitely about people just celebrating their bodies.”

When Stephen said he only likes spending the briefest of moments in front of a mirror, Megan protested, “No! You gotta appreciate! Let it marinate, let it sit, like, ‘I like this! I like where this is going!’”

Speaking of appreciation, although both Megan and her WAP partner Cardi B have expressed their confusion toward the song’s backlash amongst the more conservative pundits in the media, Megan still had to take the time to appreciate them for all they’ve done for her.

"I wanna tell them, 'Thank you for the streams. Because, without you, I don't know if we would have been here,'" Megan giggled before adding, "I mean, them people crazy."

“I would like that engraved on a card!” Stephen deadpanned. “Just to hand out to people. ‘Them people crazy.’”
