Megan Thee Stallion is sending a message with her music. On November 20, the rapper released her highly anticipated debut album
Good News, including the diss track “Shots Fired” which appears to be taking aim at fellow rapper Tory Lanez. In October, Lanez was
charged with shooting Megan in both feet following an argument on July 12. If found guilty, the Canadian musician faces up to 22 years in jail.Megan directly references the shooting in “Shots Fired,” rapping “You shot a 5’10” bitch with a .22 / Talking ’bout bones and tendons like them bullets weren’t pellets / A p--sy n—a with a p--sy gun in his feelings / Okay, he in the backseat and he keep callin’ me a bitch / We all know this shit, I coulda came back with (Lil’ ass n—a)” and “Who a snitch? I ain’t never went to the police with no names.”
The shooting happened after Megan and Lanez left a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s house, which Megan appears to reference in the song. “I don’t want you on a bitch, believe you wouldn’t been invited / And if it weren’t for me, same week, you would have been indicted.”Megan also talks about Lanez lying about his involvement in the shooting. In November, Lanez pled not guilty to his
two felony charges, which include assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. “Imagine n—as lyin’ about shootin’ a real bitch / Just to save face for rapper n—as you chill with / Imagine me givin’ a f--k it was your f--kin’ birthday / You in your feelings, I just thought it was another Thursday.”Megan was rushed into surgery following the shooting and doctors removed bullets from both her feet. The Houston native later went on
Instagram Live to discuss the traumatic incident, saying, “It was just the worst experience of my life, and it’s not funny. It’s nothing to joke about and it’s nothing for y’all to go and be making fake stories about.” Megan did not name Lanez at the time, saying, “It’s not that I was protecting anybody, I just wasn’t ready to speak. In August, Megan did
name Lanez as her shooter. Only one month later, Lanez dropped his album
Daystar and referenced the shooting multiple times, maintaining his innocence and using the violent event as a way to sell albums.In addition to the release of
Good News on November 20, Megan also dropped the video for her banger track “Body.” Directed by Colin Tilley, the super-sexy “WAP” 2.0 video features cameos from Taraji P. Henson, Jordyn Woods and Blac Chyna.Megan is scheduled to perform a new song during Sunday’s
American Music Awards (Sunday Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV), which will be hosted by Henson.
Megan is nominated for five awards going into this year’s AMAs.
