Harry and Meghan may have given the world an unforgettable fairy tale royal wedding but the same won’t be said about their honeymoon. Because, hello, that’s private and the only way we’ll see any bits of it is in a fictional retelling of what life is like for the Sussexes now that they’re married, just like that Lifetime movie. But since they’re not in a rush to jet off to some amazing destination, and are content in tending to some post-wedding public engagements, they’ve had time to pick the perfect getaway.
While many believed Africa would be where their loved-up escape would take place, since it holds so much meaning for them, it turns out they may have opted for somewhere else, somewhere that’s just as close to Meghan’s heart: Canada.
According to TMZ, Harry and Meghan will honeymoon at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alberta and stay in the 6,000 square-foot Outlook Cabin, which is dubbed a “royal retreat” and costs $8,850 a night.
Royal officials have yet to confirm if the claims are true, but why would they? If Harry and Megs want to secure any sort of privacy, we’ll hear neither denials nor confirmations.
It’s not the first time the resort has welcomed royalty. King George VI and the Queen Mother stayed there in 1939, and Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited in June 2005.
Set in the middle of Jasper National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Harry and Meghan will be surrounded by gorgeous surroundings and all kinds of wildlife, all the more to hide them away from the public eye and those pesky paps. We all saw the movie, right? What’s a couple of bears when Harry has come face to face with a lion. Twice.
Of course, this could all be a fakeout for the media and they’ll be laughing about it on some private beach where no one is the wiser. Also, this is TMZ we’re talking about. It’s Meghan’s dad that goes running to them with news, not the Duchess.
At the same time, though, it’s not entirely unbelievable. Look at this place. If they don’t honeymoon in Jasper, they’ll have to find a way to make a royal visit out there eventually.
