Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle purchased their first ever home in Santa Barbara (they even have a mortgage!), details have been scarce about the home life they’re setting up with their one-year-old son Archie. On August 17, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a virtual call from inside their new home to chat with members of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust about using social media for good and ensuring little Archie grows up in a world where online bullying is a thing of the past. We also got a little peek into that new abode of theirs.Obviously, you can't see too much from the Zoom call vantage point, but it's clear their house has at least two windows and a stone structure of some sort which may or may not be a fireplace. How... normal. They also appear to be on the quarantine plant parenting wave judging by the leafy greens behind Harry.Speaking to young activists and organization leaders on the call, Prince Harry praised their drive and ambition telling them,“You guys are the definition of the 21st century Commonwealth!” The chat, which was organized and chaired by the chief executive of the QCT, Nicola Brentnall, lasted for approximately 30 minutes where the Duke and Duchess engaged with the ideas and visions of the young leaders from across the Commonwealth, and also shared some personal experiences with digital culture and online trolls.
“I lived in Canada for several years, but it wasn't until joining the family that I was able to meet so many young people throughout the Commonwealth." Meghan shared, adding that the youth she's met are always eager to make positive change. "If they came with a question they always offered a solution, and that's what I think is so inspiring.”Prince Harry chimed in with a similar sentiment: “I learned in the army, 'Don't come to the table with a problem unless you've got a solution' and I think this platform that you guys have created is so positive and that's exactly what you guys need, because there's a lot of negativity out there. There's a lot of noise. The experts have described it as an attention economy which is basically just a shouting match and it's sort of benefiting the wrong people. But with social media, the way that it can help so many individuals and groups be able to improve, to connect, and be able to focus on the things that really matter and the things that bind us rather than the things that divide us.”[video_embed id='2012490']RELATED: ‘Finding Freedom’ reveals hidden details about Harry and Meghan's life together [/video_embed]Toward the end of the chat, Harry added that he commends the youth of today for calling out "lies and mistruths" and said “I already feel as I'm way too old” to count himself as part of their movement.“You have to stop!” Meghan giggled. “We’re not old!”“But it’s true!” he continued. “This is the world that you guys are going to inherit.”“And Archie,” she added, raising a finger. This isn’t the first time Harry has addressed online hate, bullying, trolling, and abuse. Earlier this month, he wrote an op-ed for Fast Company where he stated social media is used far too often for hate-mongering rather than forward thinking, change, and vision.“Social media is dividing us. Together, we can redesign it,” he wrote. “The digital landscape is unwell and companies like yours have the chance to reconsider your role in funding and supporting online platforms that have contributed to, stoked, and created the conditions for a crisis of hate, a crisis of health, and a crisis of truth.”[video_embed id='2018110']BEFORE YOU GO: Brandy opens up about her longtime struggle with depression [/video_embed]
