We might not find out who the designer of Meghan Markle‘s dress may be until the big day. And that’s OK. Because we already know the usual suspects: Ralph & Russo, who Markle wore for her engagement photos; Erdem, the Canadian designer who is also loved by the Duchess of Cambridge; Stewart Parvin, the bridal designer who has worked with Queen Elizabeth, so a nice homage there; and Alexander McQueen, whom she adores. But, hey, Meghan might not have to decide on just one dress.
According to Vanity Fair, Markle is having two dresses custom made for her: an “elaborate yet traditional bridal gown” for the ceremony and reception, and a fun, “more sophisticated dress for the evening.” Lots of brides do it; why shouldn’t a future duchess?
“The plan is for her to change after the ceremony so that she can party the night away in something glamorous and less restrictive,” revealed the source. “Meghan can’t wait to surprise everyone, especially Harry. The wedding dress itself will be traditional and elegant. There is talk of some lace and sleeves and Meghan has been working very closely with the designer who has been sworn to secrecy.”
That’s right, like the rest of us, Prince Harry doesn’t know who’s designing Meghan’s dresses as he wants it to be a surprise. And it could be a pleasant one. The latest front-runner is now Burberry, which would be a patriotic choice since it’s so quintessentially British. The Daily Mail reports that there have been meetings within the fashion house, despite Burberry not being known for the wedding dresses.
“These meetings have been shrouded in secrecy but it is understood that they concern the PR strategy for a seriously high profile dress,” said an insider. “No one knows for sure whether Burberry has secured the commission for definite as this is all being done very much on a need-to-know basis. But there can be no more high profile dress this year than Meghan’s.”
Kate also did this, so perhaps she’s weighing in on what Megs should or shouldn’t do. Whatever the case, we can’t wait. All we do know is it’s going to be fabulous. She’s proven in her appearances thus far that she knows how to balance that fine line between conservative and modern so you know she’s going to slay whatever she wears. May 19th can’t come soon enough.
