Meghan Markle and fiance Prince Harry marked International Women's Day by meeting with young girls in Birmingham, England, with the former Suits star inspiring one in particular to pursue her dream of acting.
“Meghan told me that I can achieve whatever I want to achieve. And Meghan said she would like to see me on TV when I become an actress,” 10-year-old Sophia Richards said according to People, after meeting the future duchess during her brief visit with locals. “It was a dream come true. I will never forget this day.”
It was the prince who initially began chatting with Sophia, and after learning she dreams of being an actress, took her hand to introduce her to Meghan. The exchange ended with Meghan giving the local student a hug.
It was but one of several stops Harry and Meghan made throughout the day. The couple met with girls at an event hosted by Stemettes, intended to inspire them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Video shows the pair sitting with some fo the 90 girls who learned HTML, as well as skills to build apps.
From there, the pair met with participants of Coach Core, a program that provides sports apprenticeships to young people.
Markle wore a J.Crew coat, Alexander Wang pants, and a wool/cashmere sweater by AllSaints.
The soon-to-be-royal has long supported female empowerment initiatives, and in 2015 spoke passionately about her pride in being a feminist during a speech at a UN Women conference in New York on International Women's Day in 2015.
“It is said that girls with dreams become women with vision. May we empower each other to carry out such vision. Because it isn’t enough to simply talk about equality. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to simply believe in it. One must work at it. Let us work at it together, starting now,” she said.International Women's DayMeghan MarklePrince Harryroyals
