At this point, it’s only a matter of when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce their engagement. Because as far as everyone outside the couple (and palace and royal family) are concerned, the question’s already been popped, Megs has already replied with a resounding yes, and we’re left to wait until the official rollout and ring unveiling happens. Until then, we have to rely on “sources” and “insiders,” which we will more than happily do.
Here’s what we do know. Meghan has already met Prince William, as well as her future-in-laws, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. But The Queen? That wasn’t supposed to happen until a more appropriate time, but Us Weekly is now reporting the two women have met.
It reportedly went down on Sept. 3 in Scotland, where Harry and Meghan headed after their three-week vacation in Botswana and Zambia. After visiting with Charles and Camilla at Birkhall (their estate in the grounds of Balmoral), the couple headed seven miles to the Queen’s summer residence.
“It went well,” the insider told Us. “It’ll no doubt be the first of many encounters.”
The source added: “The entire weekend was a success. He was able to introduce someone he loves to someone he cares for deeply.”
It’s worth noting that it took Kate Middleton five years to meet the queen. Will and Kate began dating in 2003 and she met the Queen at the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly in 2008. It’s also worth mentioning that it wasn’t even Will that introduced them; rather, Harry did the honours, and introduced his grandmum to both Kate and then-girlfriend Chelsy Davy. William wasn’t there and instead chose to attend the wedding of former flame Jecca Craig‘s brother in Kenya.
Basically, this is a huge deal. Sure, the story is based on anonymous sources and neither Kensington nor Buckingham Palaces have confirmed anything. But this also isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
The Queen may not be an ordinary granny, but she does have a special fondness for Harry, and vice versa. It would make sense that he would want her to meet Meghan, since they’re next-level serious. And the fact that Harry was allegedly so keen to introduce her, a mere year into their relationship, suggests that things aren’t merely heating up but are already lava hot. Are they already engaged? Most likely. Now it’s just a matter of time before Meghan Markle will become Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales.
