With every week that we get closer to the May 19 wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, a new rule, responsibility, and job seems to pop up in anticipation of the ‘I do’s.’ We always thought finding a good caterer was one of the most difficult parts of getting married; when you’re a royal, you also need to find the right royal aide. If they can make a great grilled cheese for the midnight buffet, even better.

With actor-turned-full-time philanthropist Meghan Markle now only a few months away from gaining a royal title, she’s already getting used to royal customs, including being assigned her own official aide.

Former Kensington Press Secretary Amy Pickerill, who previously worked closely with Prince William and his wife Kate, has now been assigned to be an assistant private secretary in Prince Harry’s office. So, is this kind of like when Katy Perry ‘stole’ Taylor Swift’s back up dancers and the two became embroiled in a feud? Is Pickerill the backup dancer? Are Kate and Meghan now feuding? Will one of them release a diss track and then date the other’s ex? Probably not, but considering how tight lipped the royal family is, the best we can do is gossip and maybe write some fan fiction.

A graduate from the University of Nottingham, which frankly sounds impressive because of its English name, Pickerill spent years working for the Royal Bank of Scotland in the press department before taking a job with the royal family.

What does the job entail? Thirty-two-year-old Pickerill will be working alongside Meghan, with duties including overseeing Meghan’s official diary and handling any royal-related correspondence for Markle. Pickerill will also be expected to attend all public events with Markle and act as the point of contact for organizers. On a less official level, you can get used to seeing Pickerill as the woman standing near Markle at public events holding arm loads of flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, and any other gifts bestowed upon the royal-to-be by the public. It’s kinda like the thankless mom job, except Pickerill actually gets paid.
