Meghan Markle continues to look to the royal ladies of past and present for best fashion practices.
As followers of the Royal Family may have noticed, the Duchess of Sussex had a slightly new look about her locks as she attended a Remembrance Day ceremony at Royal Albert Hall in London on Sunday.
In actuality, you’d have to be a pretty keen follower — much like the the self-described “beady-eyed beauty enthusiasts” at Popsugar — to notice. The shorter layers in the front aren’t all that noticeable at a first glance, and this was intentional. It’s actually a trick that both her sis-in-law Kate Middleton and late mother-in-law Princess Diana have employed. Maybe the Queen Mum, too, but her hair is so often turned under some epic hat that it’s hard to notice any hair changes.
Princess Diana’s former hairdresser recalled the process of updating her look in a magazine feature interview: “Whatever I did to her hair became front page news. We had to be very careful. We had to do it one-fourth of an inch at a time over several weeks,” he revealed.
The reason behind the quiet changes is simple: members of the Royal Family aren’t supposed make any drastic changes to their appearance, as it could take away focus from actual important royal duties of philanthropy.
Meghan’s new short layers could be just that — simply some shorter strands to frame her face — but they could also be a sign that she’s considering a more transformative cut to reflect the transformation into motherhood, but she’s taking baby steps with the scissors to get there. Still, Meghan’s never really ventured into bob or even lob territory, so likely she’ll be keeping some length. Either way, she’ll look radiant.
