For Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first appearance after the announcement of the royal babe, Meghan wore a pair of earrings that we predict are going to be everywhere really, really soon.
While in Sydney for their Australian royal tour, everyone focused on the white shift dress that Markle was wearing because of #bumpwatch, but once people discovered her earrings, the dialogue quickly shifted. Markle chose to wear a pair of diamond butterfly earrings that belonged to Princess Diana, a special way to honour her late mother-in-law. The Princess of Wales wore these earrings while on her first royal tour to Canada in 1986 with Prince Charles.

Like everything else that the Duchess wears, we expect that these earrings (or at least lookalikes) will be everywhere in no time flat. There’s no denying that ‘The Meghan Effect’ is very real and people cannot get enough of the Duchess’ style. Take her wrap coat by Canadian brand Line that she wore for her engagement announcement — the coat sold out online almost instantly and has been hard to keep stocked ever since.
If you’re one to jump on a royal trend, we suggest raiding your childhood bedroom. Chances are you have some butterfly hair clips lying around. It was one of the hottest hair trends in the ‘90s, after all. Or, just give it a couple of weeks and you will likely start to see butterfly earrings, accessories and motifs on clothing popping up at your favourite fast-fashion retailer before you know it.
