Well here’s one you probably didn’t see coming: royal bride-to-be Meghan Markle will be skipping a popular wedding tradition for royal and non-royal brides alike, forgoing the help of a professional makeup artist for her big day.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, Markle will rely on the help of a couple of girlfriends (perhaps one Jessica Mulroney?) to create the perfect wedding-ready look. It may sound like a risky choice for such a high-profile event, but she’s not the first to make such a bold move, and may have taken inspiration from someone who’s walked in her (incredibly well-heeled) shoes.

Kate Middleton added a down-to-earth touch to her 2011 wedding by tending to her own makeup, after taking tips from a close friend. She was accused by some of being a little heavy-handed, though the general consensus was that she looked fit for a fairytale on the big day, with every detail from her dress to her makeup to her hair scrutinized to the finest minutiae.

As for Meghan, it’s well-known that, just like the rest of us, she has her favourite go-to products, including a drugstore lotion to keep her skin supple, a favoured Nars blush from her Suits days, and a beloved shade of Charlotte Tilbury lipstick. Seems like whatever’s responsible for giving her that effortlessly dewy glow’s been working a charm so far, and you know what they say about it not being broke… She is said to be enlisting the help of Amal Clooney’s hairstylist however, according to Bazaar sources, so she’s not exactly like the rest of us.

No doubt keen beauty commentators will be on hand to give us all the info on Meghan’s royal wedding look, and we can’t wait.
