One of the reasons we love Meghan Markle is that she seems to keep Toronto very close to her heart. Since moving to the city in 2011 to star in Suits, Meghan has called Toronto home and has supported many Canadian businesses along the way, including a designer or two. Her engagement announcement to Prince Harry was no different, as Meghan showed love to two Canadian brands.

Her Future Royal Highness opted for a white wool wrap coat by Toronto label, Line. The $799 coat, now aptly renamed ‘Meghan’ was sold out minutes after the engagement photos were shared, proving that ‘The Kate Effect’ will soon also be ‘The Meghan Effect.’ Did we mention that Line’s website crashed after the images went live?

For the photo opp, Meghan also wore Aquazzura Matilde heels (sold out) and a green dress by Italian brand, P.A.R.O.S.H (also sold out).

Her other jewellery choice (apart from the beautiful engagement ring designed by Prince Harry, worn on a well manicured hand with polish that looked suspiciously like Essie’s Ballet Slippers) were $995 yellow gold opal earrings by Canadian jeweller, Birks.

Meghan’s no stranger to supporting Canadian fashion. She’s often seen wearing Aritzia, a brand founded in Vancouver and she once designed her own collection for Reitmans.

Here’s hoping Canada will always have a special place in Meghan’s heart — sartorially and otherwise.
