If you felt a shudder from halfway around the world this morning, it was likely Meghan Markle recoiling at yet another headline about her family. The former actor and future royal is dealing with another family member speaking to the press about her and in this case, it’s once again her brother Thomas Markle Jr. begging Prince Harry to call off the wedding to his sister Meghan. Well, isn’t that supportive?
Thomas sent a handwritten letter to Prince Harry at the end of the April asking his future brother-in-law to call off the wedding, saying that Meghan knowingly left their father penniless and alone in Mexico and that her limited fame in Hollywood has turned her into a “…jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage.”
The loving letter doesn’t stop there. Calling his sister a “…below C average Hollywood actress,” Markle Jr., who calls the upcoming wedding the “…biggest mistake in royal wedding history,” writes about being hurt that his family was not invited to the occasion. Okay, that point we could have seen as valid if he hadn’t written a letter to Prince Harry and sent it to InTouch Weekly as well. There’s a line in family you don’t cross and that line includes selling stories to the press.
Markle Jr. criticizes Meghan in the letter for not asking her father to walk her down the aisle, which is something we’re still not totally sure isn’t happening. If Meghan does decide to have someone else walk her down the aisle (her mother and Prince William are both rumoured to be on aisle duty), then there’s likely a good reason for it and one that as her brother, we would discuss with Meghan and not the world.
Of course, it would be difficult for Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr. to talk about the details of the wedding with his sister since the two have been estranged since 2011. Yeah, that tidbit really isn’t giving much weight to his impassioned letter as a ‘caring brother.’ More of a ‘looking for his own payday’ brother.
As for Markle Jr.’s angle that he wants to protect the royal family, that’s an even tougher pill to swallow than the devoted brother angle. He ended the letter saying, “Also you would think that a royal wedding would bring a torn family closer together, but I guess we are all distant family to Meg.” This man has obviously never watched a Royal wedding. They are worldwide events attended by thousands, watched by millions, and adhere to strict customs. This isn’t a backyard wedding filled with emotional speeches and a mushy slide show. Know your audience, Thomas Markle Jr.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to be married on Saturday, May 19 and despite Thomas Markle Jr.’s letter, we’re pretty sure the event is still moving forward.
