Producer and commoner Trevor Engelson is all about art imitating life, and considering his ex-wife is Meghan Markle, this is taking that adage to a whole new level. Engelson — who was with Markle for nine years, married for two — is now in the early stages of plotting out his next TV show. The project is about an American divorcée going off and marrying an English prince. Um.
Deadline reports the tagline of the comedy, which is also being produced by Modern Family‘s Danny Zuker, New Girl‘s Jake Kasdan and The Shannara Chronicles‘ Dan Farah, was pitched as follows: “Divorce is hard. Sharing custody is harder when an ex-wife marries a British prince. Sharing custody with the British Royal family in the unforgiving spotlight of London’s tabloid media is next level.” Bloody hell.
According to Deadline, it originated when Engelson and Farah “mused about what would’ve been if Engelson and Markle had kids and he had to share custody with the British Royal family one day.” Riiiiiiight. And Deadline also noted that it’s being called “fictional” and the lead characters aren’t based on Megs or her ex. You know, because they have no kids together. Oh, in case you hadn’t already figured it out, Meghan is NOT involved with the project.
No word on whether the exes were friendly but we’re guessing after this, not so much. And what the Prince Harry and the rest of the royals will have to say about this latest hiccup.
Hmm, if only Farah had just said, “Yeah, maybe not.” But instead, it’s actually in the works, with Fox giving it a pilot commitment, and likely picking it up — especially if it coincides with a real-life royal wedding. You can’t buy that kind of publicity.
Surely this story is not related to Prince Harry in any way at all, but if you’d like to watch an ‘unrelated’ video of a prince in Canada…
