With a little over a month to go until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s wedding, pretty much everything is squared away. Venue? Check. Flowers? Check. Cake? Check. Invitations? Hell, yeah, check. But some family members of Meghan’s are still waiting anxiously by their mailboxes for their invites. Silly rabbits.

“We’re all quite saddened and hurt,” Markle’s cousin Trish Gallup told the Mirror. “Back in January, I sent an engagement card and a letter including photos of us at our grandmother Doris’ 65th birthday celebration in 2000.”

Gallup later found out that royal staffers turned her FedEx package away. She told the paper that she found an address online for Harry and re-sent the same pictures but, again, no response. So Gallup gave the 18-year-old photo to the paper to publish. Right. Because that’s the best way to handle this situation.

Gallup did acknowledge that she’s “not holding out any hope” for an invite, and believes “Meghan’s sister [Samantha Markle] blew it for us by writing a tell-all book” and can’t afford to risk the embarrassment. “I’m saddened, though,” she added. “I would have loved to give my wishes to Meghan.”

Now, what is actually sad is the report that Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, might not be walking his daughter down the aisle.

Meghan’s uncle Michael claims he spoke to Thomas recently and “he didn’t seem to know what the problem was,” adding that the father of the royal bride-to-be hadn’t heard anything about his role in the wedding or if he’s even invited.

Or perhaps Thomas is such a private guy, he knows how to keep things close to the vest. Our guess is that he isn’t telling anyone who doesn’t need to know what he’ll be doing on May 19. It was just last week that Samantha slammed Meghan for “inviting strangers to the Royal Wedding and not her family.”

Blood may be thicker than water but like Janeane Garofalo once said, it’s still sticky, unpleasant and generally nauseating. Samantha is on her own planet, bitterly griping about her estranged sister to anyone and everyone who will listen. This Gallup woman probably didn’t stand a chance, but sealed her fate by giving the Mirror an old family photo of Meghan and making it seem like they’re still so close. Come on now. Think about all the old pics you have with family or others from 2000. Some you might still be tight with and speak to regularly; others are now strangers or you only know about what’s going on in their lives via Facebook. Why would the latter score invites?

Look, if Barack and Michelle Obama weren’t invited, these distant, random family members shouldn’t be holding their collective breath. Here’s hoping they get a clue.

Thomas, on the other hand, we still have faith that he’ll be there; he just knows how to keep his personal business personal. It would be nice if the rest would follow suit.
