It’s been three days since the world set their alarm clocks extra early on Saturday morning to watch the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The newly minted Duke and Duchess of Sussex were married at St. George’s Chapel in England this past weekend and have already completed their first official outing as a royal couple. As if that wasn’t impressive enough (shouldn’t they be on a honeymoon somewhere warm, or at least sleeping?), Markle’s debut as a royal brought something we haven’t seen from the monarchy in a very long time – people genuinely having fun.
The newlyweds made their royal debut on Tuesday at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebrations, which took place in the garden of Buckingham Palace. Although Prince Charles doesn’t turn the big 7-0 until November, the party is meant to celebrate his lifelong commitment to charity, with members of the military and various charities supported by Princes Charles in attendance for speeches and music.
Harry and Meghan were there to celebrate their father/father-in-law’s big day, with Meghan already mastering the art of RICWH, or Riding In Car With Hat. It’s not nearly as easy as it looks.
The couple looked just as smitten as they did on Saturday, each taking turns to do some swooning. Here’s Harry starring at his gorgeous bride.
And here’s Meghan looking adoringly at Harry as he gives a speech about Prince Charles.
With all eyes on Meghan for her royal debut, Markle delivered a slam dunk. Wait, we should make that more British. What’s the cricket version of a slam dunk? Meghan did that. Sure, she adhered to royal protocol, which means pantyhose on, hat worn, and high heels clicking, but Meghan went above and beyond the call of duty. Here she is with her new mother-in-law Camila, the Duchess of Cornwall. Are. Those. Smiles?
Now Prince Charles’ face is doing the same thing!
These people can’t be contained!
When was the last time you saw this many royals in one place all laughing and looking like they were genuinely having a good time? We can’t remember. Meghan already helped bring the monarchy into the 21st century with her inspiring and diverse wedding ceremony and it looks like she’s excelling at picking up Princess Diana’s work as the woman who will help unite the monarchy with the people.
Well, this is truly refreshing.
