Since Meghan Markle spent six years in Toronto filming Suits, she has a lot of little Canada connections that make us love her even more. One of those connections might be making an appearance at the royal wedding in the form of one of Meghan’s best friends, Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney.
A royal insider told InStyle that Meghan has picked her maid of honour, but it isn’t sister-in-law-to-be, Kate Middleton. Instead, the coveted position has reportedly gone to “one of [Meghan’s] closest friends who has stood by her for many years before meeting Harry.” While there are obviously a few women who would fit that description, speculation is favouring Mulroney for the job.
Markle and Mulroney met and became close while Meghan was living in Toronto and the royal love birds reportedly hid out at the Mulroneys’ when the public first got wind of the coupling. Jessica, as a personal stylist, is responsible for iconic Markle looks like the engagement announcement white Line coat and green dress and the first-ever royal appearance turtleneck/skirt combo.
Mulroney — on top of being known for styling Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and being one half of a true Canadian power-couple with husband Ben – has made a name for herself styling brides. Now that’s a skill you want in your MOH. According to reports, Jessica was very involved in Meghan’s wedding dress choice. And why wouldn’t you bring along your personal stylist/best friend/potential maid of honour for such a big moment?
So how close is this “close” friendship? Markle’s social media accounts were shut down last year (such is the life of a royal) but Jessica’s Instagram features countless shots of the two traveling on “fake honeymoons” together, praising one another’s accomplishments, hitting up Toronto sporting events and just generally looking like two best girlfriends.
We’re sure Meghan has any number of stylish ladies to choose from, but obviously we’re rooting for our Canadian girl.
