With killer style points and her real-girl approach to hair and makeup, it’s no question why Meghan Markle is our woman crush of 2018. And as she executes the natural beauty craze so gracefully while being in the demanding royal spotlight, we find ourselves asking, ‘how does she do it?’. Because let’s face it, effortless beauty isn’t so effortless.
In an interview with Refinery29, Markle’s former hairstylist and makeup artist, Lydia F. Sellers reveals her approach to beauty is rooted from her confidence. “She just wants to look like a better version of herself. That’s something she believes firmly in,” explains Sellers.
Keeping in mind the royal bride-to-be’s minimal approach to beauty, with a BeautyBlender and just the right amount of Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Sellers always made sure to sheer out the coverage to reveal Markle’s true complexion. Her biggest beauty request: “Every time I’d do her makeup, she’d say, ‘Can we just make sure my freckles are peeking through? I don’t want a ton of foundation,'” Sellers says. With skin like hers, we don’t blame her.
But this is no huge shock to us. Last year, in an interview with Allure, Markle revealed her biggest beauty grievance is when magazines Photoshop her freckled complexion. ““To this day, my pet peeve is when my skin tone is changed and my freckles are airbrushed out of a photo shoot,” she told the magazine.
And just when we thought she couldn’t get anymore chic, Sellers recalls Markle’s awareness of what was trending in the beauty world and her choice of eco-friendly makeup. Her favourites: Tatcha and Canada’s own RMS.
Just like her makeup, Markle’s approach to hair is also minimalistic. And yes, the low bun and the tousled waves have always been her thing. “We’ve stuck to the same sleek look since I’ve known her,” Sellers says.
As always, when it comes to beauty tips from Meghan, we’re all ears.
