It’s a new week, which means another opportunity for one of Meghan Markle‘s siblings to overshare about Prince Harry‘s future wife. To be honest, it would be entertaining if it wasn’t so damn annoying and predictable. The narrative remains the same: Meghan’s the bad guy, and one of her half-sibs is the victim. This time, Meghan isn’t paying enough attention to her half-brother, Tom Markle so, you know, he figured he would try and throw Megs under a double-decker to get the spotlight on himself.
Tom took his complaints to In Touch Weekly, telling the mag that, with all the media scrutiny that comes with being someone who is related to a future member of the British Royal Family, he would love it if Meghan would throw him a bone and provide some assistance to keep the press at bay. But apparently she’s not exactly sympathetic to his pleas.
“My lawyer had a phone meeting with her lawyer, and he emailed me some of [Meghan’s] direct words,” Tom told the mag. “She said, ‘That’s distant family and I don’t know those people.'”
Tom called her response “harsh,” “a slap in the face” and “below the belt.” Tell us how you really feel.
Well, he also thinks it’s “ridiculous” that Meghan thinks so little of him, saying, “I spent a lot of time with her growing up.” Yeah. GROWING UP. Not as an adult and not anywhere or any time close to the present. It isn’t a coincidence that they haven’t spoken since 2011, when she moved to Toronto to start filming a TV show, and that he’s trying to get back in her life now.
But just in case you still weren’t empathizing with Tom he has more, he also told In Touch that he’s lost work and has had to move three times because of Meghan. “There was a time where people were following me around at work, taking pictures and posting horrible stories about me and my family saying I’m a white supremacist, a drug addict and a dealer, all this crap that just isn’t true,” he explained. “My attorney was reaching out to her people and the palace to basically [help us] try to get a retraction for all these false stories in [countries] where there are different laws.”
The response they got from Harry’s office simply stated, “I am so sorry to hear you have been having a tough time with the media.” And just for good measure, Tom gave those emails to In Touch, which they published.
Now, if Tom was simply trying to live his life without cameras following him, that would be one thing. If he was sincere in that, we’re sure Meghan and, in turn, the palace would help in some way. But seeing as Tom’s motives seem pretty transparent, and he — and his sister — are spilling dirt and getting paid for their stories, Megs isn’t budging.
Meghan can’t choose who her family is. She can only do what she feels right, and if that’s distancing herself even further and cutting ties with those coming out of the woodwork for a quick buck, it’s understandable. With the wedding still to come, not to mention the rest of Meghan’s and Harry’s life together, there are only going to be more stories, more salacious than the last. That’s when we should all follow in Meghan’s footsteps and run.
