Duchess Meghan hasn’t had her baby yet (we think), but there’s already talk about when she’s going to get back to her royal duties after Baby Sussex’s arrival. If you thought she would be taking a full mat leave, Canadian-style, think again. Well, for the first three months, sure. But after that, it’s reportedly back to business.
“Meghan has made it very clear she wants to return to work as soon as possible,” a royal source told The Sun. “She has huge amounts of energy, is extremely determined and wants to be as hands-on as possible with her charities.”
The insider continued, “Nothing has been written into her diary just yet, as she wants to wait and see how she feels after having the baby.”
But if her day planner (floral, we’re betting) is any indication, it won’t be too long before she’s back at it. “She’s pencilled in three months, but she’ll most likely return to public life in six weeks — on the Queen’s official birthday, Trooping the Colour, in June,” said the source. “Three months maternity is standard in the U.S. for American mums — they don’t normally get the six or even 12 months women get here in the U.K. So this is totally normal for Meghan.”
You know what else is “totally normal” for Meg? A gruelling day of work — at least it was when she was working on Suits and various other projects. She probably gets that her job as a working royal isn’t really going to take her away from her child too, too much. It’s not like being on set all day, every day. So Meghan making the odd (or even frequent) appearance isn’t that big of a stretch, in the grand scheme of things.
While Meghan will surely take a well-deserved break once the baby is here, if we’ve learned anything about the activist turned royal it’s that her work ethic will come through. The woman has goals and we are totally on board. Leave it to Meghan to figure out the right balance; she doesn’t have to do everything, but somehow we suspect she will.
