Big Little Lies fans, we have good news. No, it’s not the confirmation of another season (for now, we can only dream) but we can safely say it's the next best thing…On Tuesday,
Deadline announced that the relentlessly hilarious and ever-charming Melissa McCarthy is set to star alongside Nicole Kidman in a limited series titled
Nine Perfect Strangers. Even better, the leading ladies won’t just be in front of the camera; they’ll also be behind it, producing the project. And if you’re wondering what this has to do with
Big Little Lies beyond Kidman’s name on the cast list, are you
really as much of a fan as you claim to be? Okay, just kidding. But if you didn’t know,
Nine Perfect Strangers is the latest bestselling book from
Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty, and yeah, we’re excited.Seemingly the queen of weaving compelling stories of intersecting lives, Liane’s latest work follows nine ('perfect') strangers brought together by way of a boutique health-and-wellness resort promising healing and transformation to its guests. Kidman will play the resort’s director, Masha, while McCarthy will assume the role of Francis, one of the spa-goers. The synopsis doesn’t give away too many (presumably juicy) details for those who haven’t yet read the book, but according to the
series logline, we’re promised that these wellness-seeking strangers have "no idea what is about to hit them."Ohhh, please tell us more.
The series was greenlit by Hulu last May, and is expected to debut in 2021. In the meantime, fans of the book have been eagerly awaiting cast announcements and McCarthy returning to the small screen for the occasion certainly sets the tone.
Keeping it in the
Big Little Lies family, the show will also reunite executive producer Bruna Papandrea, along with creator and executive producer David E. Kelley.[video_embed id='1730618']RELATED: ‘Big Little Lies' might not be returning for Season 3[/video_embed]As for Kidman, the actress has been having quite the year. Not only does she have major projects in the works, but
Nine Perfect Strangers will also
earn her a million dollar paycheque. And by million dollar paycheque, we mean per episode. Not a bad day at the office, if you ask us...With Kidman and McCarthy confirmed, we'll just have to wait and see which stars round out the cast. Could Naomi Watts play Heather? Maybe Nicole's
Big Little Lies co-star Alexander Skarsgård could join the cast as Lars? While we have to wait for more casting news to be confirmed, both seasons of
