Season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy (Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on CTV) has featured a new, woke Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) that up until this point we’ve been mostly on board with; she committed insurance fraud to save the life of a child; love it. She got Andrew out of prison when he tried to take the rap for her; fair. She has been helping people who don’t have health care while fulfilling her community service hours; that’s a good use of her talents. But on Thursday night, Meredith went too far. Helping fix the medical system and raising your three children is significantly more difficult if you’re in jail.

MEREDITH PERSISTED…TOO MUCH

Meredith’s firing from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital has freed her up to further pursue her bourgeoning activism, using her years as a surgeon to champion improvements in the medical field. Her first rookie mistake was sending all her ideas at once (to the editors of a website that isn’t big enough to employ appropriate freelance contracts but is big enough to get almost 90,000 shares in a few hours, but we digress). Her second mistake was thinking the site was going to pull the viral article. Her third mistake was leaving her court-ordered job to apologize to Miranda. We get that Meredith wants to make a difference and we get that she likely felt sick about hurting Miranda, but we also get that she has three reasons to finish her hours and not get called in front of the judge. They are Zahara, Ellis and Bailey.VOR (voice of reason) Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti) argued with Meredith that she needs to fix the system from the inside instead of blowing it up and her life along with it. Point Andrew. Meredith said that if he thinks she’ll stand by while people are being taken advantage of, he doesn’t know her. Um, yeah he does because she’s stood by for the past 15 seasons. She *literally* had no idea how insurance worked until she committed fraud for a patient five minutes ago. For a smart person, Meredith is going about things in a not-smart way.

MIRANDA’S HOT MAMA FLASH

Here are more things we learned on the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy; One seeing Miranda cry is shocking for everyone, including her husband Ben (Jason George); Two, you can be peri-menopausal and still get pregnant; Three, and we feel like we just said this (because we did), but none of the doctors on this show understand birth control. Anyways, mazel tov, Miranda! We have a feeling she won’t be naming the baby Meredith. Let’s just hope there’s not a bomb in the hospital when she gives birth this time.

AVERY’S WAR WITH KORACICK

We get it, everyone hates Tom Koracick (Greg Germann). Well, everyone on the show. We still like him. Avery (Jesse Williams) is the latest person to pick up the mantle of hatred for his new boss. When Tom hires a camera crew and offers a family a free surgery to fix their daughter’s skull, Avery is disgusted that the emotional parents are forced to be on camera to gain some good publicity. Is Tom’s move calculated and insensitive? Probably. Does Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital need good press? Definitely. It’s ironic that an article about insurance companies seeing people as dollar figures is being fought with a free surgery, thus proving Meredith’s point and also giving Tom the opportunity to fight from within the system. See Meredith, this is how you do it. Avery, who let’s not forget is very, very, very rich, is so mad at Tom that he steals the surgery and shuts out the cameras. His moment of feeling high and mighty is slightly dampened by Schmitt, who points out that Avery just ruined a chance for the hospital to improve its name. But you know, Avery won, so that’s what matters. Ugh. You tell ‘em, Schmitt.Watch new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on CTV and catch up online anytime at CTV.ca.[video_embed id='1790146']The 'Grey's Anatomy' enemies play 'the hardest game ever'[/video_embed]
