Showbiz can be cruel. It’s a world of plastic faces (and breasts, and butts), unearthly beauty standards, and judgy people. The perfect breeding ground for cruelty.
As spectators, we may participate, but we’re not alone. Some of the celebrities themselves have been known to participate in the sport that is celeb bashing.
The insanely beautiful Kate Beckinsale is the latest star to feel the heat.
Arguably one of the most attractive women in the world, Kate falls into the category of “unearthly beauty.” Kate, mother of one, always has great hair, glossy and perfectly coiffed, her bod is bangin’, and she’s put together–whether she’s walking a red carpet premier or grabbing a bite in Santa Monica. And she does it all with this air of infectious confidence.
Seriously, just look at her!
But, according to Pearl Harbor director Michael Bay, Kate’s beauty is just average. Like, the kind of average that doesn’t make other females feel threatened. Bay obviously has such a strong understanding of women’s feelings towards one another.
“I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blonde,” Kate told The Graham Norton Show.
The actress continued, “When we were promoting the film, Michael was asked why he had chosen Ben [Affleck] and Josh [Hartnett], and he said, ‘I have worked with Ben before and I love him, and Josh is so manly and a wonderful actor.’ Then when he was asked about me, he’d say, ‘Kate wasn’t so attractive that she would alienate the female audience.’
“He kept saying it everywhere we went, and we went to a lot of places.”
Hollywood has created a city full of monsters. Or, if not monsters, a type of person with such skewed beauty ideals, they can no longer recognize what qualities actually dictate gorgeousness. ‘Talent’ and ‘confidence’ are the first two attributes that jump to our minds, along with stunning, Beckinsale-esque beauty. Come on! Look at this face.
Kate, if you want our opinion, we happen to think your beauty is a force to be reckoned with. And if we happen to become the next big Hollywood film director, you’ve got the leading role. Because we think you’re both hot AND talented.
