It would seem Meghan Markle is as taken with Michelle Obama as the rest of us. The Duchess of Sussex slipped away Monday night to see the former First Lady who was speaking in London as part of the book tour for her recently-published memoir, Becoming.
The meeting between the two iconic women was private, but a source confirmed to People that they spoke for a while about women’s empowerment — a cause to which they’ve both dedicated years of their lives.
“They spoke at length about the importance of supporting and empowering women across all cultures and communities,” the source said. “They also talked about shared experiences of pregnancy and raising children, plus shared causes including girls’ education.”
In 2009, after just over two months in the White House, I was blown away by a visit to @EGA_School in London. It was a day that shaped who I became as First Lady. Today, I returned to catch up with the girls from EGA and @MulberryTH, and came away just as hopeful. #IAmBecoming pic.twitter.com/TTRgPGTY6x

Coincidentally, Michelle had just recently spoken to Good Housekeeping about what advice she would offer Meghan if given the chance. In an interview with the magazine published one day prior to the meeting, Obama compared her own experience of being thrust into the limelight when Barack ran for president to Meghan’s when she went public with Prince Harry.
She said that her advice to Meghan would be to use the opportunity to do good, but not all at once.
“Like me, Meghan probably never dreamt that she’d have a life like this, and the pressure you feel – from yourself and from others – can sometimes feel like a lot,” the First Lady said. “So my biggest piece of advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything. I spent the first few months in the White House mainly worrying about my daughters, making sure they were off to a good start at school and making new friends before I launched into any more ambitious work. I think it’s okay – it’s good, even – to do that.”

Michelle continued by highlighting the importance of picking a project you’re truly passionate about and dedicating yourself to it.
“What I’d say is that there’s so much opportunity to do good with a platform like that – and I think Meghan can maximise her impact for others, as well her own happiness, if she’s doing something that resonates with her personally,” Michelle said.
We wonder how much of that Michelle told Meghan directly when they met. Oh, to be a fly on that wall!
