The official portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama were formally unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery last month. And they are pretty damn special. When Michelle spoke about the modernist painting of herself by artist Amy Sherald, the former first lady said, “I’m also thinking about all of the young people, particularly girls, and girls of colour, who, in years ahead, will come to this place and they will look up and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall of this great American institution.”

Then this happened last week.

The little girl is two-year-old Parker Curry; her mom, Jessica, told Buzzfeed, “In the world we live in today, I’m just trying to raise a little girl who has opportunities to see women who look like her doing great things.”

But even as a kid you can accomplish amazing, wonderful things — like meeting the subject of the portrait that fascinated her so much. That’s right, Parker not only got to meet Obama, but she danced with her too. How many people can say that?

And if people thought Parker looking up at Michelle’s big, beautiful portrait was moving, seeing them together IRL was next level.

And just when we thought it was absolute perfection, it somehow got even better.

Sigh. Oh, Michelle, we miss you so. Your husband as well, though that goes without saying.
