Millie Bobby Brown to star in Russo Brothers’ sci-fi movie ‘The Electric State’

Millie Bobby Brown is no stranger to the science fiction genre (see what we did there?) — and now, the Eleven actress is set to step into a huge new role under the direction of Anthony and Joe Russo.

The upcoming project, titled The Electric State, is a sci-fi movie based on the popular illustrated novel by Tales from the Loop‘s Simon Stålenhag. The story follows a young girl (played by Brown) in an alternate future. When she realizes her robot companion has actually been sent to her by her missing brother, the pair embark on a cross-country mission to find him. A sci-fi road trip movie? Sign us up.

The Russo Brothers, who, if you needed a reminder, directed four movies in the MCU including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, will direct and produce the movie under their AGBO production company. This project has been long in the making for AGBO, who first landed the rights in 2017. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will write the script. Markus and McFeely previously worked alongside the Russo Brothers on all of their MCU films, as well as the upcoming film The Gray Man.

Speaking to Deadline, Markus revealed that The Electric State showcases a “very human story about a teenage girl with all the powers of a teenage girl and nothing more.” He also noted that, for this particular project, the cast of characters is predominantly women. “Another thing we are really proud of when it comes to this story is all the major characters, barring one supporting character, are women which is super exciting to be involved in.”

And yes, Twitter is right. Brown has definitely been booked and busy these days. The young star is currently filming the fourth season of Stranger Things, and recently starred in Enola Holmes. Her upcoming projects include Godzilla vs. Kong and The Girls I’ve Been (which she’s also producing), and the YA-based The Thing About Jellyfish.
