The first Monday in May would typically be one of the most important fashion days of the year but since the coronavirus is still making it unsafe to gather in groups, the annual Met Gala has been postponed indefinitely. If you’re missing this year’s high-fashion event, you can get your fashion fix with the #MetGalaChallenge, a fun, viral initiative that has people recreating famous red carpet moments for their chance to be featured in Vogue (*Vogue* Madonna whisper).Billy Porter teamed up with Vogue to launch the #MetGalaChallenge, which “aims to bring the ball’s fashion-forward spirit to life.” Porter and Vogue have asked crafty fashionistas to submit their own re-creations of ensembles worn by former Met Gala attendees from home, with the hope that "the wild and wonderful possibilities are endless.” Tinfoil, tarp, Christmas lights—we never knew you were so versatile.[video_embed id='-1']RELATED: The most dramatic looks from the 2019 Met Gala[/video_embed]Celebs who have previously attended the Met Gala are even getting in on the challenge. Mindy Kaling has been a guest at the Met Gala more than three times and even tried to stage a robbery there with famous friends one time. Rather than simply pull out her Vassilis Zoulias crown and gown from the 2018 Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination theme, Kaling recreated Jared Leto’s Gucci look from last year’s event, floating head included. "Recreating one of my favorite Met Gala looks ever with the help of a tarp, some Christmas lights and packing tape," said Kaling in the caption, adding that she was pretty sure Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele “would approve." U.S. Olympian Adam Rippon has been delivering solid content on his social media since the quarantine began, including his videos on how to work out while at home and his mock press conference following Britney Spears’ announcement that she accidentally burned down her home gym. So, it should come as no surprise that the fashionable figure skater handily recreated Rihanna’s 2015 Guo Pei handmade dress. We’re just guessing that Adam’s version didn’t take one year to make by hand. Still looks great! Fashion designer Vlada Ruggiero got the seal of approval from Blake Lively after recreating the Gossip Girl star's 2018 Versace gown, complete with a spaghetti crown. “And your makeup too?!!! Nailed it!” wrote Lively in the comments on Ruggiero’s Instagram.
We are currently living for actor Eugene Lee Yang’s ode to Zendaya’s 2019 Tommy Hilfiger Cinderella transformation. A costume maker who uses the social media handle AvantGeek used wrapping paper, glue, paint and a pillowcase to create a stunning rendition of Gigi Hadid’s 2018 Versace gown and even added a headdress. Vogue will be announcing winners on May 4 and will feature their creation on the magazine's Instagram account and website.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Grandson makes TikTok video with grandma even while physical distancing[/video_embed]
