It looks like Mini Bautista is following in his hero’s footsteps, because he just scored himself a home run.
Jose Bautista met with his pint-sized counterpart before Game 4 of the ALCS against the Kansas City Royals, and the moment was just as adorable as you probably expected:
If you’re not familiar, Mini Bautista (AKA Oscar Wood) was the subject of a recent viral YouTube video where he was seen timing an imaginary swing perfectly to Bautista’s 3-run home run during Game 5 against the Texas Rangers. And this was no coincidence, according to Wood. The boy really believes the Blue Jays star plays better when he is tucked somewhere in the crowd, sporting that trademark technique. “When I imaginary-swing the bat to (Bautista), it brings luck to him, because when we went to Yankees Stadium, he hit a home run and then we went to the Tampa Bay game in Toronto and he hit two home runs,” he told the Toronto Star. Seems like pretty solid evidence to us. The newspaper also reports that the viral video made Wood, who has been to 30 games this season, “a celebrity in the schoolyard”. But we bet he’ll get even more recess-fame after this:
During Game 5 against the Kansas City Royals, we’re really hoping Mini Bautista is somewhere in that crowd swinging with his hero.
Because we’re counting on you, buddy.
