We were all a little sad when Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr split up. They had been together for years, were super-sweet together, have a young son, but it simply wasn’t meant to be (we’re sure those Bieber and Leo rumours didn’t help). They’ve remained friendly post-divorce, and he has since found happiness with Katy Perry, while she’s been dating Evan Spiegel, whom you may or may not know as the co-founder and CEO of a little app called Snapchat.
Miranda, 33, and Evan, 26, have been together for just over a year but the two are more than happy together. So happy, in fact, that Spiegel popped the question! And of course Kerr said yes, sharing the joyous news on both Instagram and — you guessed it — Snapchat.
Sigh. Remember what announcing your engagement was like before social media? Yeah, us either. Now it’s not just about showing off the ring, but adding a cartoon creation to the announcement as well. Ahh, 21st century romance.
According to Us Weekly, Miranda’s diamond is “about 2.5 carats” in either platinum or white gold, featuring a “sizable round stone, flanked on both sides by a tapered diamond baguette.” It’s simple, tasteful, timeless and the mag’s expert puts it at about $55,000.
Huh, some of you are thinking. But we kind of love that Spiegel didn’t get one of those flashy, massive, over-the-top baubles (cough, cough, we’re looking at you, James Matthews). Sure, Evan’s a billionaire and $55K is chump change to him, but he clearly understands the value of a dollar and doesn’t buy into the whole engagement culture of spending a sh*t ton.
Their wedding (Miranda’s second, Evan’s first), on the other hand, will likely be an extravagant affair. And we can’t wait, especially to see Flynn, who we assume will be the ring bearer. Congrats to the lovely couple!
