Tess Holliday covers the July beauty issue of Nylon, in which she revealed that she identifies as pansexual and would definitely consider being in a relationship with a woman be it not for her monogamous marriage to husband Nick Holliday, with whom she tied the knot in 2015.
Holliday recalled her sexual coming out in the interview, sharing it happend during a vacation in Mexico. While at a hotel pool bar, a man asked her if she was bi and she replied, “‘Thank you so much for asking. I’ve been thinking a lot about my relationship to my own queerness, and I think the word pansexual speaks to me more than bi does.'” That’s when he said, “‘Thank you for telling me about that but actually, I said, Are you buying?‘”
A pansexual is someone who is attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender identity, and Holliday further explained, “I can connect with people on a more intimate level than I was before because I don’t have to pretend to be someone I’m not.” When asked if she would ever be involved romantically with a woman, Tess replied with a firm, “Yeah!” but admitted, “I might not know, like, what to do. But I feel like I’d figure it out.”
The model and body positivity activist is known for her badassness, and has an Instagram feed (that nearly two million fans follow) full of glamorous photos of her modelling gigs, selfies with her husband, and adorable pics of her sons. Holliday was the first model of her size to sign with a mainstream agency, Milk Model Management, and has been a source of inspiration to women who haven’t been accurately represented in the beauty and fashion worlds. Going forward, Holliday will not only use her brand to speak out about body positivity and inclusivity and diversity, but hopefully pansexuality too.
