Creative Joel Alvarez, also known as a “tape artist” has created a range of elaborate and fanciful swimsuits all made out of tape. Yep, the self proclaimed “King of Tape” sent models down the runway at Miami Swim Week wearing nothing but strategically placed cut out pieces of the stuff. Alvarez, the creator of The Black Tape Project, started out his career by creating a look for a model using strips of the black electrical variety. After this experience, he said: “I asked a few waitresses that were models from Hooters Doral to let me practice on them and the designs started to evolve. The designs were primitive but they were on to something.”

And while you might scoff at the impracticality of a swimsuit made entirely of tape, you have to admit, the results are quite mesmerizing.

Honestly though, we have many questions. Apart from the fact that body diversity was not taken into consideration at all when it comes to Alvarez’ portfolio… how is this, in any way, comfortable?

Is the tape waterproof? How exactly do you put the pieces on? What if you need to go to the bathroom? Luckily, you can figure all that stuff out on your very own, because the tape is for sale right on the Black Tape Project website. Starting at $25 USD, you too, can build a custom sci-fi bikini of your own. Here’s to your most uncomfortable yet creative swimsuit ever.
