It’s every parent’s biggest nightmare, watching your child get incredibly sick. It’s particularly galling when your child suffers from what should be a largely preventable disease. While there are vaccines available to protect children from many of the diseases of childhood, some parents, colloquially referred to as ‘anti-vaxxers’, refuse to get their kids immunized no matter the risks.

One mother turned to social media to call out anti-vaxxers after her daughter (six-week-old Isabelle) caught whooping cough:

“This is a disease that we would like to get rid of entirely, and because it’s so infectious, it’s really difficult to,” says pediatrician, Dr Jeff Bishop. He adds, “When our vaccine rate is not as high as it should be, it puts our kids at risk.

We may or may not have cried a bit while reading Annie Braiden’s post, especially the part about how she was about to lose Isabella. If people don’t get immunized, babies who are too young to get the vaccines can be at risk and, unfortunately, as Braiden points out, Isabelle is proof that not immunizing children can be harmful to other kids.

“It never crossed my mind to not vaccinate, I want to protect my children and other children. Please vaccinate your kids,” Isabelle’s mother wrote in the post.

The post already has over 29,000 shares, which means this woman’s voice has finally been heard. Get better soon, Isabelle.
